URA needed an unlikely hero to secure all three points and bounce back to winning ways against Gaddafi FC, in what was a Matchday 17 encounter of the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season at the Arena of Visions, Ndejje University.

The hero ended up being Brian Nkuubi, who had only come on the pitch as a second-half substitute adding to Ibrahim Dada’s earlier strike in the same half to register a hard-fought 2-1 victory and send the fans in rupture.

This particularly well-composed strike by Nkuubi was charged in the 93rd minute, coming as a cancellation to Bate Seif’s equalizer that had only levelled the tie.

Sam Timbe had introduced Ivan Sserubiri as a starter to the game, the only change to the Tax Collectors’ side that started the game against KCCA.

URA was however underwhelming in the first stanza of the game and managed limited chances to the opposition goal. Ultimately failing to score on two occasions.

One of these saw the skipper, Shafik Kagimu witness his effort from close range bounce onto the crossbar in the 28th minute. Flashes of these would show again as the game continued but nothing much to read into it.

The introduction of Dada for Moses Sseruyidde at the restart brought more life to URA’s attacking prowess, ultimately paying off with a goal to open the deadlock from the substitute in the 52nd minute of the game.

A classic headed effort courtesy of a perfectly executed delivery from Vianne Ssekajugo off the right flanks. This however served as a recipe for Gaddafi to show more hunger, which paid off in the 66th minute with a goal of their own.

There on, URA will have goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi to thank as he pulled out two brilliant saves to deny the visitors.

Nkuubi was however not planning on letting the game end as a stalemate when he came off the bench and struck the winner at the death to ensure that his side bagged all the three points on the day.

The victory ensured that URA moved to third place with 31 points after 17 games played as they await their next encounter away to Wakiso Giants. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15th at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
