URA FC’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League title-chase is realistically back on after the Tax Collectors’ 3-1 home win against SC Villa.
The taxmen are now in close range of the title, having narrowed the point gap to seven points after collecting maximum points at the Arena of Visions in an all-home dominated affair on Sunday evening as Steven Mukwala, Saidi Kyeyune and Dada Ibrahim all scored for URA.
Kyeyune’s free-kick was deflected by Garvin Kizito into his own net to give URA the lead as early as the 34th minute.
Mukwala doubled the home side’s advantage in the 63rd minute after his well-fired shot could not be stopped by Martin Ssenkooto.
Second-half substitute Dada slotted home URA’s third with four minutes to go after combining well with Nunda, Sekajugo and Mukwala.
An enticing performance from Mukwala upfront saw him being named man of the match, as a rock-solid partnership at the back ensured there was no harm for the home side.
Goalkeeper James Alitho had a good game making a couple of important saves, he almost kept a clean sheet, until the last minute when he conceded from the spot-kick as another second-half substitute Benjamin Nyakoojo fouled Amir Kakomo in the forbidden area.
Having sat out for almost two whole years with injury since joining URA back in 2020, Jackson Nunda marked his debut with brilliance. The entertaining midfielder had a big influence on the game, coming on for Moses Sseruyidde exactly past the hour mark to add flavour to URA’s attack.
After 22 games, the Tax Collectors have now moved to second position on the 16-team table with 42 points, seven off the top.
