URA FC returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Lugazi FC at Lugazi Stadium on Tuesday evening, completing a league double over the debutants.
Second-half substitute Bruno Bunyaga emerged the hero with a clinical 90th-minute strike, calmly slotting home skipper Enock Walusimbi’s low cross to seal all three points for the Tax Collectors in a tense contest.
The vital win lifted URA to 46 points, though the team remains in fourth place on the Uganda Premier League table with just three matches left in the season.
It was a much-needed response from Alex Isabirye’s side, who had gone three games without victory. Despite facing a resilient and well-organised Lugazi side, URA dominated proceedings and created the better opportunities throughout the match.
In the first half, the Tax Collectors came close on several occasions through Joseph Semujju, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Moses Aliro, and Laban Tibita. However, the breakthrough remained elusive.
Goalkeeper Denis Otim was called into action early on, making key saves to keep the hosts at bay.
After the interval, URA maintained pressure and controlled possession, but Lugazi remained compact in defence.
Coach Isabirye introduced Bruno Bunyaga, John Innocent Kisolo, Nicholas Kabonge and Olimi Nyarwa all of whom injected fresh energy and urgency into the attack.
The decisive moment came in the dying minutes, when Walusimbi set up Bunyaga to beat custodian Mutebi, sealing a dramatic win for the tax collectors.
Following the full-time whistle, coach Alex Isabirye expressed mixed feelings, pleased with the result but critical of the wasted chances.
“I’m happy we got the three points, but we should have killed the game earlier. We’ll go back, correct the mistakes and prepare well for the Nakivubo derby,” he said.
Up next for URA FC is a much-anticipated Nakivubo derby against Express FC this Saturday under the floodlights, a fixture that promises fireworks.
