James Begisa grateful for Uganda Cranes call-up ahead of AFCON 2025 qualifiers

URA FC’s roving right back James Begisa has expressed deep gratitude following his recent call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad for the crucial Morocco AFCON 2025 Qualifiers.

The double-header against South Africa scheduled for September 6th away and Congo on September 9th at Namboole marks a significant milestone in Begisa’s blossoming football career.

Begisa, who has risen through the ranks of Ugandan football with stints at KCCA FC, Proline FC and UPDF FC attributes this achievement to his faith in God, relentless hard work, patience and huge commitment to the sport.

“This call-up is a dream come true and I am beyond grateful to God for this opportunity,” Begisa remarked. “It’s the result of years of dedication, hard work, and staying patient even when the journey seemed tough.”

The former Uganda Hippos (U20) player who was part of the the team that reached the AFCON U20 final in 2021 in Mauritania has consistently showcased his ability on the field.

His standout performances didn’t go unnoticed, especially during the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria where he was one of the key players for the Uganda Cranes.

His ability to seamlessly blend defense and offense has earned him recognition as one of the most promising right backs in the country.

As he prepares for the upcoming qualifiers, Begisa remains focused on contributing to the team’s success. “I know the task ahead is challenging but I am ready to give my best for the team and the country if given chance. This is just the beginning, and I am committed to working even harder.”
