URA FC midfielder Norman Namanya has expressed his delight after opening his goal account for the season in the Tax Collectors’ 1–1 draw against Kitara FC last Thursday at Royal’s Park–Butema in Hoima, during a closely contested fixture in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.
Namanya’s composed 66th-minute equaliser not only earned URA FC a valuable away point, but also marked a significant milestone for the club, their first league goal under new head coach Hussein Mbalangu after an eight-game wait.
Speaking to URA FC media, the midfielder was visibly pleased to finally get off the mark and help the team turn a corner.
“It feels really good to score again and help the team,” Namanya said. “As players, we’ve been working hard in training and we believed the goal would come. I’m grateful to my teammates and the technical team for the trust they continue to show in me.”
Tooro’s finest acknowledged the importance of the goal beyond personal satisfaction, highlighting what it means for the squad as they push to climb the league table.
“This goal is special because it gave us a point and also broke a difficult run. Scoring our first league goal under the new coach gives us confidence. It’s something we want to build on going forward.”
Now in his third season with the Tax Collectors, Namanya has been a consistent contributor, tallying eight goals and eight assists across all competitions since joining the club.
He believes the team is beginning to respond positively to the new ideas being implemented by the coaching staff headed by Hussein Mbalangu.
“We are understanding the coach’s philosophy more with every game. Performances are improving, and if we stay focused and united, the results will definitely follow,” he added.
Attention now shifts to knockout football, with URA FC set to host Blacks Power FC, the current FUFA Big League leaders, in the Round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup this Wednesday, 25th, at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.
“The Uganda Cup is a big opportunity for us. Blacks Power are a strong side, but at home we want to show character and fight for progression. Personally, I want to carry this momentum into the cup and help the team in any way possible,” Namanya noted.
In the league standings, URA FC currently sit 13th on the table with 15 points from 17 matches, but Namanya remains optimistic about a strong finish to the season.
“The table doesn’t reflect the quality in this squad. We know what URA FC stands for, and our responsibility now is to keep improving, keep believing, and push back to where the club belongs.”
With confidence slowly returning and key players stepping up, URA FC will hope Namanya’s timely strike proves to be the spark that ignites a sustained resurgence in both league and cup competitions.
