URA FC took a significant step in reconnecting with its rich heritage on Tuesday with a special class session at Hamz Stadium, headlined by club legend Robert Ssentongo.
The inspirational engagement, initiated by Chairman Dr. Micah Galya and CEO Allan Munaaba, brought together past excellence and present ambition in a bid to reignite the club’s winning mentality.
Ssentongo, without a doubt one of URA FC’s finest forwards, remains etched in the club’s history after playing a pivotal role in their Uganda Premier League triumph in the 2010/11 season and lifting the Uganda Cup in 2014, the last time the Tax Collectors celebrated major silverware.
His time at the club spanned two spells between 2010–2012 and 2014–2016, with success achieved in both stints.
Addressing the players, Ssentongo delivered a powerful and practical message, particularly to the attacking unit, drawing from his experience of consistent goal scoring, trophy-winning campaigns and a long professional career that also saw him represent the Uganda Cranes for many years.
“Football is not just about talent, it’s about love for one another as a team, putting in extra work beyond the normal training, and giving the game more time and attention, especially as you approach matches. Set personal targets, but always align them with the team goals. That’s how you grow and achieve greatness.”
The session also featured insights from CEO Allan Munaaba, a former URA FC captain and Ssentongo’s teammate, who emphasized the importance of rebuilding the club’s identity and internal environment as a foundation for success.
“Revamping our club culture is key if we are to rediscover our past glory. It starts with openness among players, pushing each other, and creating an environment where everyone is aligned to the same vision. That unity will drive us forward.”
Chairman Dr. Micah Galya’s initiative to bring club legends closer to the current squad reflects a broader vision of bridging generations using experience and legacy to shape the future.
The impact of the session was immediately felt, with players and the technical team led by head coach Hussein Mbalangu expressing their appreciation to management.
They described the engagement as both timely and motivating, while also calling for more such sessions involving former club greats.
Despite enduring an inconsistent run in the league this season, URA FC still has a realistic opportunity to end the campaign on a high.
The Tax Collectors have reached the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where they face a tough challenge against SC Villa.
With renewed inspiration from their legends and a sharpened focus on unity, discipline, and culture, URA FC will be aiming to channel the lessons from Tuesday’s session into tangible success on the pitch keeping alive their pursuit of silverware and a return to glory.
