Opiro Credits Hard Work and Team Support After Back-to-Back Full Games, determined to keep improving

URA FC’s promising right back Justine Opiro has expressed his gratitude for the growing trust shown in him by the technical team, after featuring full-time in the club’s last two Uganda Premier League encounters against Express FC and Lugazi FC.

With first-choice right back James Begisa sidelined due to injury, Opiro has stepped up confidently, delivering consistent and mature performances on both occasions.

The hardworking defender impressed in the 1-1 home draw against Express FC and followed it up with a solid display away to Lugazi FC in a goalless stalemate, a match that earned him the Man of the Match accolade.

Known for his energetic runs, defensive discipline, and thunderous long throw-ins, Opiro says the opportunity to contribute to the team’s efforts this early in the season is a blessing he does not take for granted.

“I’m really thankful to the coaches for trusting me to play full time in the last two games,” Opiro said. “It’s never easy stepping in for an experienced player like Begisa, but I believe hard work and patience always pay off. I also credit my teammates for the support and encouragement because football is a team effort. I’m happy with the progress so far and hopeful for better days ahead.”

After being named Man of the Match against Lugazi FC, Opiro believes that recognition will further boost his confidence and inspire him to keep improving as the season progresses.

“That award really motivated me,” he added. “It showed that the effort I put in is being noticed, and it pushes me to do even more. My personal target is to keep working hard, earn more playing time, and help the team get positive results through teamwork and determination.”

Opiro will once again have an opportunity to showcase his growing influence when URA FC host UPDF FC on Wednesday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in a Matchday Five fixture as the Tax Collectors continue their search for the first league win of the season.
