URA Ladies FC registered a historic milestone on Saturday, securing their maiden FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) victory with a convincing 2-0 win over She Makerere (SHE-MAK) at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Following their promotion to Uganda’s top-flight women’s football division last season, the Tax Collectors were determined to make their mark after falling to KCCA Women FC in match day one and they did exactly that with a composed performance that delivered maximum points on Matchday Two.
Nakigozi Makes History
URA Ladies broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through Elizabeth Nakigozi, who calmly finished after Shamusa Najjuma’s low effort was spilled by the SHE-MAK goalkeeper.
The goal carried added significance as it marked URA Ladies’ first-ever goal in FWSL history, making Nakigozi the player who etched her name into the club’s record books with the historic strike.
The Tax Collectors continued to push forward and were rewarded again in the 34th minute.
New signing Shafiga Tamisi cleverly beat the offside trap before finishing to double URA’s advantage and opening her account with Vanessa Namazzi providing the assist.
Solid Defence Seals Historic Win
URA maintained control after the break and created several opportunities to extend their lead, with captain Zaina Namuleme, Shamusa Najjuma and Nakigozi all coming close.
SHE-MAK also searched for a way back into the contest, but the Tax Collectors’ defence remained resolute.
Patience Nabulobi, Angle Nakanwagi, Vanessa Namazzi, Rachel Nanyonga and goalkeeper Esther Nantongo stood firm to preserve the clean sheet and ensure URA walked away with all three points.
At the final whistle, Vanessa Namazzi was named Woman of the Match following an influential display.
Nkata Praises Teamwork
Head coach Moses Nkata credited the victory to collective effort and praised his players for executing the game plan.
“This victory belongs to the entire team. The girls worked together and followed exactly what we had discussed before the game. The early goals were very important because they gave us confidence and affected our opponents’ morale. We now have to remain focused, continue working hard and fight for more victories.”
Namazzi Delighted with Team Effort
Woman of the Match Vanessa Namazzi was equally pleased with the result, highlighting the unity within the squad.
“I am very happy with the victory because we fought for it together as a team. Everyone played their part, and that is what helped us get the three points. Personally, I will continue working hard to contribute more to the team, help us win more games and hopefully earn more individual accolades as I continue developing my career.”
The victory gives the newly promoted Tax Collectors an important confidence boost as they continue their maiden FWSL campaign.
Next Stop: Masindi
URA Ladies will now turn their attention to their next assignment, travelling to Katushabe Stadium in Masindi on Saturday, October 17, where they will face Lady Doves.
SHE-MAK, meanwhile, will host another challenging encounter against KCCA FC on the same day.
