Tax Collectors show character at Wankulukuku as late goals from Disan Galiwango and Abraham Tusubira overturn Darious Ojok’s opener

URA FC made a winning start to the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season after staging a dramatic late comeback to defeat Maroons FC 2-1 at Wankulukuku on Sunday.

The Tax Collectors showed remarkable character to recover from a first-half deficit, with defender Disan Galiwango restoring parity in the 80th minute before substitute Abraham Tusubira completed the turnaround from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time.

The victory gives head coach Jimmy Kintu a winning start to his tenure and, more importantly, hands URA three valuable points from an opening-day contest in which they had been forced to chase the game for more than an hour.

Maroons Strike First

URA entered the contest determined to begin the new campaign on a positive note, but it was Maroons who broke the deadlock.

After a competitive opening period, Darious Ojok found the breakthrough in the 34th minute, putting the hosts ahead and giving Maroons a 1-0 advantage going into the half-time break.

The goal meant URA had to respond after the interval, with Kintu demanding greater urgency and attacking intent from his side.

Despite trailing, the Tax Collectors remained composed and continued to work their way back into the game.

Galiwango Sparks the Comeback

URA returned for the second half with renewed purpose and gradually began to put Maroons under sustained pressure.

The visitors’ persistence eventually paid off in the 80th minute.

Disan Galiwango stepped forward from left-back to produce the crucial equaliser, finishing from an assist by Waiswa to make it 1-1.

The goal completely changed the momentum of the contest.

With ten minutes of normal time remaining, URA sensed that the three points were within reach, while Maroons were suddenly under pressure to protect what had appeared to be a comfortable advantage.

Tusubira Completes the Turnaround

URA’s determination was rewarded once again in the dying moments of the match.
Deep into stoppage time, Nelson Senkatuka was fouled inside the Maroons penalty area, giving URA the opportunity to complete an extraordinary comeback from the spot.

Substitute Abraham Tusubira took responsibility and made no mistake, converting the penalty to send the Tax Collectors into wild celebrations.

From 1-0 down, URA had turned the match around to win 2-1.

The late winner capped an impressive display of resilience from Kintu’s men, who refused to surrender despite facing a deficit for much of the encounter.

A Winning Start for Kintu

The result is particularly significant for coach Jimmy Kintu, who begins his time at the helm with three points.
While there will be aspects of the performance for the technical team to assess, the ability to recover from adversity and secure victory in the closing stages will provide plenty of encouragement ahead of the next assignment.

The comeback also underlines the fighting spirit within the URA squad, with Galiwango’s equaliser and Tusubira’s decisive penalty demonstrating the team’s ability to remain focused until the final whistle.

URA FC will host SC Villa at Hamz Stadium on Friday, September 4th, with Kintu’s side looking to build on Sunday’s comeback victory and make it two wins from two at the start of the new campaign.

After showing the character required to come from behind against Maroons, URA will be aiming for another strong performance as the Tax Collectors continue their pursuit of a successful 2026/27 season.
